Nitrogen Generators

When cmc Instruments GmbH started in the nitrogen generator business 25 years ago it was as a distributor. Dissatisfied with high levels of maintenance, compressor reliability, servicing costs and downtime, cmc first designed, they manufactured their own!

cmc Instruments GmbH have been market leaders in Germany and preferred supplier of membrane type nitrogen generators. Better performance, lower downtime and reduced running costs are the reasons still holding good today.

First is a ‘best in class’ membrane and to this day cmc have resisted the opportunity to use low price membranes from the Asian market. The greater efficiency of a good membrane puts less stress on the system which runs at lower levels. Greater efficiency, longer life, lower electrical running costs.

It is the compressor which is the main problem. Integral compressors, necessarily relatively small, are going to require service, and hence service contracts. Vibration, overheating and moisture getting to the membrane are common outcomes when compressors start to fail. The compressor will need replacing eventually but the nitrogen membrane can become irreversibly damaged. The result - increased downtime, higher costs and replacement parts.

Nitrogen generators from cmc Instruments do not run this risk. External, heavy duty compressors running at low levels are the answer. The quality runs right the system. Four filters further ensure that only clean, dry air is presented to the membrane. Annual maintenance involves a filter change and can be performed by the user in fifteen minutes. No nitrogen generator service contract is needed.

Not all nitrogen generators the same. Nitrogen generators are relatively inexpensive pieces of equipment necessary for the running of extremely expensive LC-MS systems. Getting the nitrogen generation right is paramount for the systems efficiency and accuracy.
