Varian is Now Part of Agilent
Jan 26 2011
Agilent’s US$1.5 billion acquisition of Varian was finalized in May 2010. This acquisition, the largest in Agilent’s history, adds a new range of atomic spectroscopy instruments to Agilent’s portfolio, which now consists of:
• AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy) with either flame, vapor generation or graphite furnace (including dedicated furnace systems with Zeeman background correction),
• ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy) with either radial or axial viewing of the plasma, and simultaneous measurement of all wavelengths, using a patented custom CCD (charge coupled device) detector, and
• ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry) with high matrix tolerance and 3rd generation helium (He) mode for reliable interference removal as standard
The addition of the Varian AAS and ICP-OES product lines complements the existing Agilent 7700 Series ICP-MS, which has redefined the capability of ICP-MS since its launch in July 2009.
