Performance validation of LC capillary columns

Oct 01 2024

Biotech Fluidics announces that Dr Maisch HPLC GmbH, a renowned leader in liquid chromatography, has integrated a Biotech Liquid Micro Flow Meter into its testing set-up to validate the performance of its capillary columns.

Located in Southwest Germany, Dr Maisch HPLC GmbH has established itself over 45 years as a premier developer of high-quality standard and specialty capillary columns for HPLC and UHPLC. The company focuses on creating innovative column phases to meet the rising demand for new solutions, addressing both routine and complex separations.

In liquid chromatography, flow rate is a critical parameter, impacting retention time and efficiency. Dr Maisch rigorously tests every column to ensure proper packing and adherence to tight performance specifications. However, accurately measuring ultralow flow rates delivered by capillary columns poses a challenge.

Johannes Maisch, CEO of Dr Maisch HPLC GmbH, explained: "To maintain tight control over our capillary testing process, we integrated Biotech's Liquid Micro Flow Meter into our chromatographic testing system. This device allows us to continuously monitor and validate that our capillary column testing runs at the correct flow rates. We also rely on Biotech's in-line solvent degasser to keep our system performing at peak levels."

Biotech Fluidics’ Liquid Micro Flow Meter continuously monitors ultralow fluidic flows in real-time, covering a range of 100 nL to 80 µL/min with one nL/min resolution. Designed for applications such as capillary HPLC, UHPLC, LC/MS, and more, this meter features a high-resolution thermal flow sensor that is accurate, sensitive, and compatible with nearly all solvents.
