New Vitamin-rich Peptone Improves Microbial Growth
Jun 20 2007
Tryptone is an excellent source of amino nitrogen and is often used as a constituent in microbial culture media. Its high tryptophan content makes it ideal for use in media that test for the indole reaction. It can also be used to detect ?flat-sour' or ?sulphide' spoilage organisms in the canning industry and in sterility testing media1.
In addition to complying with the specification for a pancreatic digest of casein in the U. S. Pharmacopoeia, Tryptone X also provides an excellent source of vitamins. It may be used as a constituent of media used in fermentation processes to produce antibiotics, extra-cellular protein, vaccines, interferon and diphtheria toxoid. It could also be used in industrial biotechnology for the production of recombinant proteins and speciality chemicals (ethanol, mannitol, bioplastic PHA, heavy duty detergents), in the production of monoclonal antibodies and for research purposes.
