How to Safely Work with Hydrogen Gas in Your GC Lab?

Hydrogen is an ideal alternative to Helium as a GC carrier gas. It significantly reduces costs and analysis time while maintaining chromatographic resolution. However, Hydrogen's flammable nature demands strict safety measures during its use. One effective measure is to replace high-pressure Hydrogen cylinders with a gas generator. The F-DGSi COSMOS generator produces Hydrogen gas on-demand, delivering only the required amount at a controlled flow rate and pressure. With built-in internal and external leak checks and an automatic shut-off function to stop the Hydrogen production, it ensures optimal safety during its use.

Another safety measure is positioning the generator close to the GC. This eliminates the need for long gas lines, reducing potential risks and increasing efficiency. Additionally, installing a Hydrogen sensor is another safety precaution. F-DGSi offers a specialized sensor that continuously monitors Hydrogen levels in the GC oven. If concentrations exceed safe thresholds, the sensor automatically shuts down the generator. By adopting these practices, you can create a safer and more efficient laboratory environment while leveraging the benefits of Hydrogen as a GC carrier gas.

Hydrogen purities up to 99.99999%

F-DGSi’s COSMOS Hydrogen generators are a practical and safe alternative to gas cylinders and Helium for carrier gas. They produce Hydrogen by electrolyzing deionized water using a 100% titanium Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) cell, ensuring a longer generator lifespan and high-quality Hydrogen supply. The Hydrogen is then purified and dried, achieving up to 99.99999% (7.0) purity, with flow rates ranging from 100 to 1500 cc/min.

The F-DGSi COSMOS gas generators have a compact and modular design, allowing you to customize the setup to meet your lab’s gas requirements while saving bench space. Combine the Hydrogen generator with a COSMOS Nitrogen or Zero Air generator to secure your GC workflow with on-demand gas generation.

Built with high-quality components, these generators are easy to install and require minimal annual maintenance. A touchscreen display shows the system status and auto-diagnostics in case of alarms, while LED indicators make operation straightforward: Green for Ready, Blue for Standby, Red for Alarm and White for Off. For added convenience, the system supports remote operation via USB and internet connectivity.
