Eppendorf signs contract for new production plant in Pinghu
With a global presence, the Eppendorf Group is increasing its production capabilities in the Chinese market. On 8th February the company entered into an agreement for a fresh production facility in the Shanghai metropolitan area to manufacture Eppendorf centrifuges specifically for the local market.
“This is an important and strategic step for our company,” said Dr Wilhelm Plüster, Eppendorf Chief Technology Officer. “It will strengthen the company’s global positioning and our worldwide production network.” China is an important and continuously expanding market for Eppendorf. The Group already generates about 15% of its consolidated revenue in China – and further growth is expected. “With this investment, we are systematically bolstering our core business in the growth market of China,” Plüster added.
Eppendorf's Separation & Instrumentation Business Division, which focuses primarily on centrifuges, is expected to gain significant growth momentum with the establishment of the new manufacturing site. “The Chinese market for centrifuges has been continuously growing for years, and locally manufactured products have an inside track,” Plüster said. “This step will enable us to systematically join in this trend.”
New Pinghu location strengthens China strategy and aims for greater customer loyalty
The establishment of Eppendorf's new production site in Pinghu, south of Shanghai, is a key aspect of the life-science company's strategy in China. This new site will bring the company's production operations even closer to its Chinese customers, which has the potential to increase market share and customer loyalty in the long term. “Our new plant will create local value,” Plüster said. “By taking this step, Eppendorf will not only strengthen its supply chains in a world filled with uncertainties, but will also reduce the company’s logistics and transport costs.” The investment is also expected to help Eppendorf achieve its goal of becoming climate neutral by 2028.
The new plant is scheduled to start production in the first quarter of 2024.
