Measurement and Testing
Are You Ready for the New ASTM D8252 Ni & V Method Using XRF?
Sep 24 2019
Author: Leslie Johnson on behalf of XOS
With the ever increasing need to measure incoming crudes as quickly and efficiently as possible, the industry has responded with a new test method: ASTM D8252 for XRF (X-ray Fluorescence) analysis of nickel and vanadium to enable petroleum professionals to certify products faster and easier than the historical alternate method using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy (ICP): ASTM D5708B.
WHY XRF?
• ICP analysis requires rigorous sample preparation involving acid digestion, can take anywhere from 6 to 12 hours to complete a measurement, and is typically performed by a chemist.
• XRF analysis, with Petra MAX, takes as little as 5 minutes from sample prep to results, and does not require a technical user to operate.
Download our method brief to learn how Petra MAX demonstrates excellent analytical performance while ensuring compliance with this new method.
