How Does the Price of LPG Compare to Other Fuels?
Oct 28 2018
Liquified petroleum gas (LPG) is a more environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional fuels like petrol and diesel. With more and more people opting to convert their vehicles to LPG, we’re producing a 6-part series all about the fuel.
How does it benefit the environment? Where does it come from? How do you convert your vehicle to LPG? Look no further. We have all the answers you need.
In this post, we’re going to be tackling one of the most important issues when considering of an LPG conversion – the price.
LPG vs. Petrol
According to data from the RAC, unleaded petrol prices this month were a staggering 131.23 ppl on average. LPG, however, is almost half of that at only 69.9 ppl. Even with the slightly reduced fuel-efficiency of LPG, you could still make a significant reduction on your fuel bills by switching.
You will still need to use some petrol with an LPG conversion though. The vehicle will use petrol for the first mile or so, until the engine has warmed to around 45°, before switching to gas. However, the little amount you need should only cost around £40-50 a year, still saving you a considerable amount.
LPG costs
Converting your car into an LPG fuelled machine will set you back around £1,500-2,500. That sounds like a lot of money, right? Although the initial investment is costly, you’ll make your money back and then some in only a short few years. Once your conversion has been paid off in savings, you’ll save money each and every time you fill your tank.
Running your car on LPG can help to prolong your engine life. Being a clean-burning fuel, LPG can actually reduce wear and tear on your engine. Having the system installed by an approved installer is especially important because you need to ensure it is fitted correctly, to keep your engine and LPG system running smoothly.
Installing an LPG system can also help to boost your car’s value. So, if you ever decide to part with your vehicle, you’ll probably get more for it because of the lower running costs.
