Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a topic which are gaining more momentum within the scientific community. These manmade chemicals found in common household products and paints are identified as forever or persistent pollutants due to the fact that they do not break down easily in the environment and are found to accumulate in our water, soil and our food.
PFAS extraction using manual SPE is a tedious, laborious and complex task often involving 2-step methods with different cartridges and different matrices. Considering the anticipated restrictions and closer monitoring of PFAS around the globe, sample quantity and throughput demands are only going to increase, putting more pressure on laboratories to move to automated extractions.
