Air Flow Calibration

Air flow and gas flow meter calibration services for the automotive, aviation, medical, environmental, pharmaceutical and process instrumentation industries. The temperature controlled laboratory is UKAS accredited (Lab 0604) for air flow calibration on both volume flow and mass flow and for both rate and quantity passed measurement. Flow passed is otherwise referred to as batch or total flow measurement and is a regular type of flow measurement calibration practice where a known volume or mass quantity needs to be verified.

The air flow calibration laboratory is well equipped to fulfill all the needs in a professional and prompt manner, for volume and mass flowmeters, calibration standards and internal transfer standards. UKAS accredited calibrations can be undertaken on dry air and traceable standard calibrations can be completed on air, nitrogen, propane, carbon dioxide, argon, oxygen or any mix of commercially available gases. All makes and models of mass flow meters (MFM) and mass flow controllers (MFC) can be UKAS calibrated.

With over one hundred years of engineering experience in gas flow metering applications, Young Calibration can offer a first class worldwide solution to service and calibration requirements on all leading types of flow meters. ISO/IEC 17025 UKAS accredited calibrations are available across a large range of our traceability schedule forĀ air samplers, rotameters, flow calibrators, leak testers, ventilators, compressed air and process systems whether this is for low cost meters such as rotameters or high accuracy coriolis flowmeters. Our reference measurement systems consist of a varying technologies covering volume provers, nozzles, laminar flow elements, laser doppler anemometry and turbine meters, to suit the meter type under test and provide an appropriate flow measurement uncertainty.

An air flow meter essentially measures the rate that the air or gas that moves through the instrument. The measurement of gas quantity and flow rate requires special care and techniques because gases are compressible and are affected by temperature, pressure and viscosity. The majority of air flow meters require periodic verification or calibration to ensure accurate measurements are maintained. Even with the correct installation and filtered air the performance of an airflow meter can degrade over time and be affected by media flowing through the device. It is critical that in service installation of the flowmeter is undertaken by a competent flow systems engineer to ensure your calibrated device performs to its stated accuracy. In general we recommend air flow meters that are installed and used in the correct manner and use clean filtered gases should be calibrated at least once a year. Flow meters that do not fall within these requirements should be calibrated on a more regular basis.
